Sums it all up perfectly Doug. There are a multitude of issues here of course, from personal decision to the mass extension of life beyond reason. Nobody has to agree to treatment for cancer if the prognosis is not good, they can opt for a shorter time feeling reasonable, but of course that is not the same as setting an actual date for a peaceful departure.

Many thanks, Janet. For many, it’s a choice they’d very much like to have.

Hear hear! Your point about denying right to die when depression is involved is the perfect example: a logical outcome of a shattering disease state may be depression. Why not let go of the idea that outsiders KNOW any better what is desired!

A cogent and rational treatment of the right to end one’s own life.
Many argue that this is a slippery slope and that validating suicide could lead to too many making this choice prematurely but this is only one of the many sides to this story. The compulsion felt by many people to take any means to extend life is unfortunate, I think. The arguments will rage on I’m sure but thank you for your contribution Doug.

Doug, this is brilliant. I’m printing it out to speak for me if I become incapable of speaking for myself. Thank you.

I’m honoured, Nancy. All we have to do now is to campaign to make it legally enforceable.
