I love your descriptions, ‘stiletto dipped in poison’ … and the imagery of the cafe as it sees the changes in his life and finally the only escape from his bleak life.
This was a ruthless piece and an example of some very good writing. From the second paragraph to the end was a character I didn’t want to like, but not only couldn’t I *not* like him, I couldn’t stop myself from identifying. Maybe it’s some odd practical joke that we become what plagued us?
