This piece was adapted for the Six Sentence Challenge with the prompt word ‘book’. For the original, click here.
Mervyn: Edgar, what are you doing?
Edgar: I’m working on my novel, a type of book that contains characters the author has invented.
Mervyn: What will this novel be about?
Edgar: About a man who has conversations with a Martian called Mervyn.
Mervyn: But I’m not invented and we do have conversations.
Edgar: Only if I say so, Mervyn.
I like the imaginary Martian objecting to not being there.

if you were to write nothing, your blog title would bring me back. Six crooked highways is the story of my life.

Poor Mervyn… maybe he though he had character, but it was only Edgar’s character development at play 😀

Heeheehee! Sometimes, though, the characters are more real in some ways that i want to believe.

If you believe it, it’s real, Mimi. 🙂

Haha! That reminds me of, when I was very young, my older bother tried to convince me that everyone one else – including him – was a figment of my imagination. Maybe he was right!

So he won’t mind then if you include a thinly disguised caricature of him in your next story. 🙂

Made me smile again, Doug. Could be I’m partial, but if made to choose between the two, I’m going with the 6 sentence version ‘cuz you know, 6 sentences 😉
If you haven’t scene the movie, think you’d enjoy it.

Thanks, Denise. Never seen the movie but it’s on my list for this week. If you can, try to catch ‘Troppo’, a new Australian series, on IMDb TV in the US. Stunning acting and scenery (and a lot of crocodiles).
