Decided to try my hand at vampire romance for a writing competition (as you do). I suspect one of the many reasons I didn’t win was that I found it hard to take it too seriously. Yah, you betcha. Gosh-darned good vamp story, but sorry he wound up a day late, a dollar short, and without the love of his life.
For a terrific vamp love story, try ‘Only Lovers Left Alive’ (2013) with Tilda Swinton and Tom Hiddleston. Clever, horrifyingly creepy, with a right mix of understated humor.
