This micro piece managed 3rd place (and a small sum of money, for which I am very grateful) in this mini-competition run by On The Premises. https://onthepremises.com/minis/mini_57/
btw I thought the top story in the Honorable Mentions deserved to be placed but who am I to say? π
A concise and curmudgeonly story, Doug! Nicely done and congratuations.
I agree about the first honourable mention, by the way, but maybe you could say it wasn’t an actual story, just two opposing views?
Then again, the same might be said about second place.
But, to quote the wise man, ‘Who am I to say?’

Thanks, Jenne. As Rabbie said, we are the little folk, we. π

Nicely done, Doug! Congrats!
I used to do similar competitions. Never won and just like the proverbial bridesmaid, I got tired of it all. We come up against some crazy good writers and the comp is steep so enjoy your win!

Thanks, Nancy. Still better odds than lottery tickets though. π

Congratulations! Your wicked wit once again wins! And the HM with a twist of humor? Very good, also.
I liked them all, but when there’s a wry twist…that stays with me longer.

Great story, Doug – a lot said of the two folks’ outlooks in such few words. Interesting to see everyone’s take on the prompt.
